I am a full time mother and a part-time early childhood educator who was born and raised in Minnesota.
Both of my parents are Native American, and I was raised on the same reservation my father was. I was fortunate to have a strong family presence my whole life. My Grandmother lived with us when I was a child, she taught my mother, brother, and I to make dream catchers. While my Mother passed down the oral stories which were told to her, she even wrote a children’s book about how the dream catcher came about. My Father also shared his traditional ceremonies and skills like harvesting medicines which grew around us, among many other things.
I have two beautiful children who teach me, push me, and hold my hand on this incredible journey. My son Miles is the inspiration for this venture, I call him my most patient teacher. He’s taught me unconditional love, patience, reflection, and much more. Miles has always been a fan of rocks. I would find them stashed in the car and more often then not the laundry. Not just the unique ones he would find on a walk, even the Target parking lot landscaping rocks. My Aunt Arlene collects rocks of all sorts, so when Miles grew a little older I told him his great aunt has so many rocks and she tells me they all hold powers.
Miles has never been a fan of change, and not just big change, even the new color I just painted the hallway. Well last year we went through some BIG changes as a family. Their father and I separated, we moved from our home town, and he switched schools. To say he was feeling out of sorts would be an understatement. One day he came home and told me how he felt fat. I was heartbroken and immediately wanted to make him feel better. I went to the rock store closest to our home and looked for something to cheer him up. I found a book, an insanely old shark tooth, and one stone I had never seen before. When I got home I looked up this unique stone named Vanadinite, an earth chakra stone known for giving people to ability to love their physicality. Boom! Que the upbeat music to our rock journey montage.
That was when my whole mindset changed. Even if I didn’t truly believe in all of this, which I do, at the very least it gave way for Miles and I to have these conversations and really reflect upon how we saw ourselves, talked about ourselves, and most importantly treated ourselves. A year later Miles, Arya, and I are thriving in our new life and continuously evolving with all the change life throws at us.
My mission with this is to inspire others to seek the power within ourselves to create a healthy, happy, evolving lifestyle. Using reflection and intention towards progression.
